Charter schools could be getting a closer look from the Delaware State Auditor’s office.
The legislation sponsored by Representative Kim Williams was sparked by allegations that leaders of the Family Foundations Academy made personal purchases of more than $94-thousand on the institution’s credit card.
Williams noted that the state auditor already oversees district and vo-tech schools.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that although the school knew about the allegations for nearly a year the Department of Education did not find out about it until the school was up for renewal.
The state auditor would hire a private auditing firm to look over the books of the charter schools.
