Stephen Decatur High School Wrestling Coach Resignation Demanded

Parents at the Stephen Decatur High School are calling for the resignation of the school’s wrestling coach.

Attorney Thomas Maronick who represents three members of the team says they are complaining about the coach kicking them off the roster after alleged drug abuse.

The complaint drawn up in February claims the coach Todd Martinek accused the three of smelling like pot and said he would drop them from the team if they did not tell who was smoking the alleged marijuana.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the document says the students denied they had used the drug and were kicked off the team.

Meanwhile, the complaint says that an assistant coach Devin Battye told one student he believed the boys did not do it but said he had to drop them from the team as ordered by the coach.

The students eventually were offered reinstatement to the team after an investigation found there was no evidence they were under the influence but they said they felt too threatened and uncomfortable to return.

The Daily Times reports that the coach said he stood by his decision to remove the students and believed they were under the influence.

The principal declined to comment.
