ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Leading Maryland Democrats say they believe much of Republican Gov. Larry Hogan's first legislative agenda will have trouble passing this year.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller and House Speaker Michael Busch said Thursday the tone of Hogan's State of the State speech frustrated them and other Democrats.
Miller, a Calvert County Democrat, says he sees "very, very little in that speech that is going to become law." The Senate has 33 Democrats and 14 Republicans.
Busch, an Anne Arundel County Democrat, says he believes the speech "drove people farther apart." The House of Delegates as 91 Democrats and 50 Republicans.
Doug Mayer, a spokesman for Hogan, says the governor continues to meet with both Democratic and Republican lawmakers, and is more than confident bipartisanship will prevail in the end.
