Smiles Okay Now for Delaware Driver's License

Delaware DMV Website

Now you can smile for the camera when you get your driver’s license photo take in Delaware.

That’s right, before state officials would not let you.

But Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles has changed its policy after upgrading the system used by the department.

The prohibition against smiles lasted for around 5 years when the state adopted a facial recognition technology in an effort to discourage identity theft.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the newer technology enables the program to discern smiling and neutral expressions.
