Lacrosse for female students has come to Indian River High School.
The unanimous decision by the school board follows three years of effort by clubs and parents.
Indian River senior Taylor Billinger told the Wilmington News Journal that this bring about a new chapter at the school.
There will be a JV team in the first year with a varsity team to come later.
The cost of the program is expected to be relatively low because the school already has lacrosse equipment.
And plans are now in the works to apply for a starter set of equipment through the US Lacrosse Foundation.
