ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland state analysts say a study on charter schools ordered by the Legislature is incomplete and lacking sufficient detail.
The Maryland Department of Legislative Services issued its findings in a letter Monday to the Legislature's presiding officers.
Lawmakers required the Maryland State Department of Education to conduct the study. It contracted with the Schaefer Center for Public Policy at the University of Baltimore to carry it out.
The study concludes that the current system "shows enough promise to be expanded."
But state analysts say 13 out of 14 requirements were only partially met due to incomplete data. The letter says one requirement relating to the amount of per pupil funding provided to charter schools compared with the amount per pupil funding provided to traditional schools was fully unmet.
