BALTIMORE (AP) - New and returning students at several Maryland public universities will have to dig a little deeper for tuition.
The University of Maryland at College Park, Frostburg State University, Salisbury University and Towson University are all implementing tuition increases of 2 percent for the spring semester starting Jan. 26.
The university system's Board of Regents voted Friday to allow the increases.
The College Park campus is also adding a surcharge that will bring the total increase for a full-time resident undergraduate to $152. In-state undergraduates at the other schools will see their tuition bills rise by as much as $62.
The rare, mid-year increases follow budget cuts that slashed more than $40 million from state funding for the university system.
