BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland regulators held a hearing on a proposed settlement with Uber that would place the popular ride-sharing company's operations under state regulation.
WBAL-TV reports that the Maryland Public Service Commission held the hearing Friday.
Uber is not currently regulated in the state of Maryland. But under the terms of the settlement Uber's subsidiary, Drinnen, would be required to apply for a motor carrier permit and hire drivers, whose names would be submitted to the PSC for background checks.
At the hearing, Uber did not call any witnesses to answer questions.
PSC officials could make a decision regarding the settlement in January or February.
