Rallying for Clean Energy in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Several groups are set to rally at the State Capitol in Richmond in support of federal proposals for clean power.

The Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club says faith-based, public health, student and environmental groups are gathering on Wednesday.

The environmental organization says the groups are demanding action to dramatically scale up clean energy in Virginia.

The rally is scheduled to take place on the heels of a joint meeting of the Virginia House and Senate Commerce and Labor Committees on the Clean Power Plan.

The Environmental Protection Agency's plan sets state-specific goals for carbon reductions from existing power plants.
