An audit found that a New Castle county official corrected the sewer bills of his friends and family before letting thousands of taxpayers that they had been overcharged.
In addition, the Wilmington News Journal reports that the Ethics Commission found a second county employee, a supervisor, corrected the bills of other county employees before taxpayers had been notified.
The paper reports that neither will be punished because a 13 day deadline was missed to file probable cause.
Meanwhile, County Executive Tom Gordon’s Chief of Staff James McDonald told the News Journal that two employees had been disciplined over the sewer billing issue but did not provide any further details.
