Delaware School Gets Bulletproof Whiteboards

creative commons

With the recent school shooting in the state of Washington still fresh the staff of Gunning Bedford Middle School in Delaware has been given hand-held whiteboards that double as bulletproof shields.

The equipment was part of a pilot program created by state Senator Nicole Poore and Representative Valerie Longhurst.

Poore says she hopes that eventually the boards can be placed in schools across the state.

The board is made from a material similar to the armor plating in bulletproof vests.

They are 18 inches by 20 inches and are light enough to carry around and be used every day in class.

But they can also be used to stop shots from handguns and shotguns.
