Delaware Allows Candidates to Return Contributions to Donors

Don Rush

Political candidates will be able to give campaign donations back to their donors in Delaware.

The measure signed into law by Governor Jack Markell was unanimously approved by the state House of Representatives and Senate.

Officials say that the need for the change in the law was the result of a Sussex Council race.

George Parish had begun raising money when the incumbent changed his mind and decided to seek re-election.

When Parish decided not to run he found that election officials told him he could not legally return the money to the donors.
