GLEN BURNIE, Md. (AP) - A Republican candidate for Anne Arundel County Council has scheduled a news conference to discuss recent controversy about association with a group with secessionist positions.

Michael Peroutka has scheduled a Wednesday news conference in Glen Burnie.

In an email, the Peroutka campaign says he will address allegations made against him by Carl Snowden, an organizer of the Caucus of African-American Leaders who asked Republicans to disavow Peroutka's candidacy.

Last week, Peroutka met with the executive director of the Maryland Republican Party to discuss his association with a group called the League of the South.

Also last week, Democratic Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who is running for governor, called on his Republican opponent Larry Hogan to disassociate himself from Peroutka. A spokesman for Hogan's campaign said Hogan "absolutely disavows" Peroutka.
