As the Delaware House of Represents gets ready to eliminate the Office of Chief Medical Examiner and establish a new crime lab in a fast track vote two major national organizations are raising objections.
The National Association of Medical Examiners issued a five-page letter called on state legislators to withdraw proposal while the Innocence Project said the measure had some serious flaws.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that Dr. Gregory Davis, president of the Medical Examiner’s Association, said the bill creates conflict of interest and interferes with the independence of the new forensics division in becoming part of the Department of the Public Safety and Homeland Security.
Critics say the legislation is moving too quickly in radically changing the foreign testing for all police agencies.
The legislation is set to be considered in the House Health and Human Development Committee before getting a full vote on the floor later today.
