Downtown Salisbury Celebrates Hispanic Culture on Delmarva

Maxima Summer Fest website

Hundreds poured into downtown Salisbury yesterday for the 3rd Maxima Summer Fest.

The annual block party celebrates Hispanic culture on Delmarva.

This year Chef Curtis Aikens from the Food Network was out teaching ways to make traditional Hispanic food healthier.

WMDT, which participated in the event, reports that the Latino population is almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes as non-Hispanic whites.

The event is also held to expose the non-Hispanic residents to the uniqueness of the community.

Don Rush is the News Director and Senior Producer of News and Public Affairs at Delmarva Public Media. An award-winning journalist, Don reports major local issues of the day, from sea level rise, to urban development, to the changing demographics of Delmarva.
