DOVER, Del. (AP) - Charter schools promise to be a major topic of discussion at this month's meeting of Delaware's state board of education.
Action items for Thursday's school board meeting in Dover include several new charter school applications, a request for modification of an existing charter and decisions on formal reviews of three existing schools.
The five new charter applications up for approval all involve proposed schools in New Castle County. A Department of Education committee is recommending approval of four of the five applications.
The committee also has recommended approval of a request by the struggling Moyer Academy in Wilmington to significantly reduce its enrollment targets.
Officials also will discuss possible formal reviews of Academia Antonio Alonso, Delaware MET and Design Lab Charter High School because of financial concerns.
