The Delaware House of Representatives unanimously approved a measure that would ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors.
The bipartisan legislation makes punishment for such sales the same as for those involving the sale of tobacco to minors.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that lawmakers were concerned that there are too many unknown health risks to the state’s minors from e-cigarettes.
The Food and Drug Administration does not regulate them.
The use of electronic cigarettes has skyrocket among those under the age of 18.
In Delaware the National Tobacco Survey found that use among high schools students rose from 4.7 percent in 2011 to 10 percent in 2012.
