Wicomico Public Schools Hope for 90% Graduation Rate in 2020

wboc website

The Wicomico County public schools have pledged to work towards a 90 percent graduation rate at all its high schools within the next six years.

It is part of a project of America’s Promise Alliance and its Salisbury’s Promise Alliance partnership to move the nation towards being the first in the world for college completion.

The success of the program would reduce the dropout rate which has been termed a crisis.

Wicomico High School was below 80 percent in graduation rates for 2012 while the other high schools exceeded 80 percent.

Superintendent John Fredericksen told the Salisbury Daily Times that the district is developing comprehensive and personalized support to ensure students they get all the help they need.

Efforts to improve graduation rates range from an online college center to assist students in their decisions for higher education and increasing the number of mentors to transition programs from middle to high school and the opportunities afforded by programs such as technology education and ROTC.
