Former Salisbury Fire Department Incorporated Treasurer Kenneth Gaskins has been indicted on allegations that he misappropriated the nonprofit’s funds for his own use in 2011 and 2012.
The alleged theft led to a six count indictment for theft under $10-thousand.
Salisbury Fire Department Incorporated president Walter Townsend issued a statement noting that this was the first time in the department’s 142-year history that a past board member of the organization had been indicted for theft of funds.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that he was unable to give the amount that was taken adding that the prosecutor advised him not to release that information.
The paper also said the 61-year old Gaskins could not be reached for comment.
