Officials are set to break ground for the new Crisfield library building that got the okay from the Somerset County Library system trustees.

They voted unanimously last week to move ahead with the project despite some doubts about the future of state funding.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that work is expected to be nearly finished for the first phase by January when officials will know how much money they will have for the next stage.

The official groundbreaking is set for October 29th which will be the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy.

So far, the library board has $3.5 million to complete the first phase which includes the core and shell of the building.

The board has applied for another $1.8 million grant to complete the interior of the building.

But they have been told that they may only get $800-thousand.
