BALTIMORE (AP) - State health officials say the first case of influenza of the 2013-'14 season has been confirmed.

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said Thursday that type A (H1N1) influenza had been confirmed by lab tests in a child in the National Capital Region. Officials say the child was briefly hospitalized and is recovering.

The department recommends that residents above the age of 6 months get vaccinated against seasonal flu.
