The Salisbury University Police Department says it expects to get recognition this November by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Conference.
It would come after a three-year process that has seen an overhaul of its policies that would allow it to comply with various law enforcement standards.
Under a policy approved by the University of Maryland Board of Regents in 2008 campus police agencies are required to become accredited or recognized by this year.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that there are only two law enforcement agencies on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that have accreditation from the group – the Salisbury Police Department and the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
