Sussex County Schools Face New State Truancy Rules

Don Rush

Schools across Sussex County are settling into the new truancy laws approved by the Delaware state legislature earlier this year.

They say that if a student misses twenty school days in the calendar school year without an acceptable excuse they are sent to truancy court.

Last year it was 30 days.

In addition, the new law says that all K-through 12 students will be subject to discipline in truancy court.

Before teenagers 17 and older could opt out.
