The Berlin Fire Company will be getting $200-thousand from the city after the town council gave its unanimous approval.
This will be first funds the fire company will get since they were cut off after a recommendation by the town’s auditing firm PKS and fire company President David Fitzgerald.
PKS told the council that the fire company is in a very strong financial position with $2.2 million in reserves and no outstanding liabilities.
Meanwhile, Fitzgerald warned that unless there is a resumption of funding from the town there would be an impact on the service that the fire company provides.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that he noted the fire company is faced with a 45-year old building in need of roof and heating repairs.
In addition, he said that the company was not certain it could take on more volunteer since training and equipment would cost $10-thousand per person.
