Kent County Seeks Dog Control Deal With SPCA

Kent County SPCA

The Kent County Levy Court will seek a new contract with the Kent County SPCA to handle dog control regulations.

Recently an administrative and financial crisis led to the decision to drop the county’s current contract with the Safe Haven Animal Shelter in Georgetown.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the Commissioners voted 6-to-1 to re-establish the county’s ties with the SPCA.

And the contract should begin October 1st.

County Commissioner Allen Angel abstained.

Last summer the Levy Court dropped its contract with Safe Haven when the shelter board announced that it would close.

Days later a portion of the board announced that the operation would stay open with the help of donations and volunteers.

A final vote on the new County SPCA contract is expected next week.

The organization is expected to provide the same services at the same cost charged by Safe Haven.
