Another Step in New Poultry Facility in Millsboro

Don Rush

The Sussex County Board of Adjustments is set to consider a request by poultry producer Allen Harim to us a Millsboro pickle factory into a chicken processing plant at its September 23rd meeting.

A Seaford poultry company owned by South Korea’s Harim Holdings Company already has an agreement with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to deal with problems arising from hazardous substances at the site.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that surveys of the site earlier in the year found higher-than-normal levels of a number of hazardous chemicals including chromium and chloride.

Allen Harim could receive up to $225-thousand in reimbursements from DNREC for cleaning up some of the chemicals and storage tanks from its use as a Vlassic pickle factory.
