Somerset County Sheriff Struggles With Lost Files From Computer Virus

Don Rush

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office is still struggling to recover computer files after an attack by a virus that crashed the system.

Chief Deputy Ronnie Howard told the Salisbury Daily Times…that data has been salvaged for last year and this year as well as from 2000 to 2005.

He said there is no indication yet as to where the virus originated.

And while most of the information disappeared much of it was also duplicated at the State’s Attorney’s Office and the courts.

Howard said that the department has implemented new safeguards to prevent future intrusions.

During a meeting of the Somerset County Commissioners Lt. Les Tyler the department once had a backup system but that was later removed and never replaced.
