Ocean City Features Appearance by Spanish Galleon Replica

creative commons wikimedia

There’s a new sight in Ocean City.

It’s a tall ship.

A replica of the 17th century Spanish galleon called the El Galeon Andalucia.

And it will be in town until Monday September 2nd for day and night time visits after sailing from Spain to be part of the 500th anniversary of the state of Florida.

Its 180 feet long with a draft of 19 feet with three masts carrying seven sails.

Bryan Lilley who brought the ship to the resort told the Salisbury Daily Times that it is the only ship from the era still sailing today.

The galleon was used from the 15th to 17th centuries.

And Magellan used this kind of vessel to circumnavigate the globe in the 15-hundreds.
