WMDT Channel 47 has been sold to the Maryland Media company Marquee Broadcasting Inc. for $9 million the first change in ownership in more than 30 years.

It’s the first foray into television ownership for Patricia Lane who is a principal with the company along with her husband Brian.

She told the Salisbury Daily Times that they had been searching for a television station to purchase over the last five years.

Lane declined to detail any philosophy toward the broadcast industry but said she personally believed that television can make many beneficial and great changes in communities.

WMDT’s signal reaches from north of Dover down to Accomack County and across the Delmarva Peninsula from the Chesapeake Bay to the Atlantic Ocean.

There are currently 60 employees at the station including the General Manager Kathleen McLain who has been with the station for 17 years.

Don Rush is the News Director and Senior Producer of News and Public Affairs at Delmarva Public Media. An award-winning journalist, Don reports major local issues of the day, from sea level rise, to urban development, to the changing demographics of Delmarva.
