Sussex County Gets New Immediate Care Facility

There’s a new health care facility in Sussex County.

Nanticoke Immediate Care has opened in Georgetown as a walk-in medical care unit for patients with minor illnesses and injuries.

The facility is expected to be part of a network of nonemergency centers around Sussex County and possibly parts of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

An immediate care center is expected to open in Seaford in the fall with others planned for Laurel, Bridgeville and potentially Federalsburg, Maryland.

Tom Brown, senior vice president for Nanticoke Health Services and president of the Nanticoke Physician Network, told the Wilmington News Journal that these facilities are expected to relieve some of the pressure on Nanticoke’s own emergency department which has seen a jump of 3 to 5 percent annually.

Urgent care centers have become popular on Delmarva with more than a half a dozen such units opening in New Castle County this year.
