Pedestrian deaths in Maryland have increased over the last couple of years.

Maryland News Connection reporter Allison Burns has the story:

Delaware

LAUREL, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck while trying to cross a road in Laurel.

It happened about 11:15 p.m. Sunday on Sussex Highway. Troopers say a man was walking from the west side northbound of the road to the east when he stepped into the right lane and was struck by the truck.

Police say the truck, driven by 22-year-old John S. Wilson of Laurel, was able to stop on the shoulder.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Wilson and his passenger were not injured.
