Salisbury City Salaries Need a Bump, Study Says

Don Rush

There’s a new report out that says the city employees of Salisbury are underpaid and should get an average 8.5 percent hike in their salaries.

Evergreen Solutions LLC found that 80 percent the 381 employees earn are compensated well below the market rate.

It recommended that overall employee compensation should be raised over no more than a 3 year period.

In addition, the $44-thousand report said that nine job titles should be revised with the creation of a position of lead zookeeper.

In the future it said the city should conduct a comprehensive pay and classification study very four to six years.

Compensation became an issue last year after police officials complained that many officers were leaving for better paying departments.

Council member Shanie Shields told the Salisbury Daily Times that it’s time for other city departments to get their raises.
