Kent County is now facing an emergency: Find a new agency to handle its dog control.

The contract with Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary, which has run into financial problems, was terminated this week.

The Kent County SPCA is one option.

Executive Director Kevin Usilton told WBOC says his organization would be ready to carry out the task for the amount of funds still left on Safe Havens original contract.

That’s around $100-thousand out of nearly $900-thousand.

He said that it would require buying vehicles, training employees and other tasks to take the contract.

The contract runs out in October.

As for Safe Haven, it said that the organization will have to in a different direction while keeping its no-kill policy to stay in operation.
