Kent County Commissioners in Delaware have called a special meeting tonight to figure out whether they will continue their contract with Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary for dog control amidst turmoil at the shelter.
After some restructuring and an effort to stabilize its financial footing the shelter is planning to stay open.
Lynn Lofthouse with Safe Haven told WBOC that the commissioners should consider the fact that the shelter never failed to meet its contractual obligations over the last year.
One Kent County commissioner notes that the options for the county are very limited if it does end its contract with Safe Haven.
The county paid the shelter $870-thousand a year for dog control.
Last Tuesday commissioners voted to terminate their contract with the shelter acting on a 60-day notification clause.
