There are calls for an major change in how Delaware State University does its background checks on potential employees.

The demand comes in the wake of the discovery that Freddie Asinor who led the College of Education, Health and Public Policy for nearly 11 months had a criminal record.

The Wilmington News Journal reported this week this ncluded embezzlement forgery and falsely claiming he was a US citizen on passport papers.

President pro-tem of the Delaware Senate Patricia Blevins wondered how the University could have missed something as major as that.

She along with others called for the Delaware State University to conduct an audit on any request for money that was submitted by Asinor.

He was responsible for managing the finances for the department that registered around 44-hundred students.

That’s around 25 percent of the school’s total.
