Millsboro
There was a train derailment a 4 a.m. this morning north of Millsboro.
Police say a Norfolk Southern freight train went off the south bound tracks that run along the highway between West State Street and Patriots Way.
The train derailed on a section east of US 113.
WBOC reports that police say the train carrying stone had 15 of its 70 cars forced off the tracks and overturn.
Neither the conductor nor the engineer on board was injured.
More than a half a mile of track was destroyed by the derailment.
Baltimore County
MIDDLE RIVER, Md. (AP) - Baltimore County police are investigating a report of a person being struck by a train in the Middle River area.
Police spokesman Shawn Vinson says an Amtrak conductor called authorities Sunday morning and believe he had struck a child on the track near Eastern Avenue and Tidewater Lane. Officers responded and observed blood and clothing along the track. But they have not located a victim.
Police later received a report of a child being taken to a hospital. However, the child's parents are telling police that the child was taken to the hospital for another reason.
Vinson says the train stopped for a time and then moved on. An investigation continues to determine what happened and to locate the victim.
