5K Run for Ulster Project Delaware

WILMINTON, Del. (AP) - The stage is set in Wilmington for an annual charity event benefiting Ulster Project Delaware.

Participants were to gather Thursday evening at Catherine Rooney's Irish Pub for a 5K run-walk benefiting UPD. The course starts behind Trolley Square, continues around Brandywine Park and finishes back near Trolley Square.

UPD brings teenagers from Northern Ireland to Delaware each year to promote peace between Catholics and Protestants in a strife-free environment. Each July, the visiting Irish teens and adult leaders live with host families with teens of a similar age. The idea is to foster tolerance and understanding, dissolve stereotypes and form lifelong friendships.

Since 1976, more than 700 Catholic and Protestant teens from Northern Ireland have visited Delaware.
