OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Maryland and Delaware beaches have made a list of 13 beaches that have received the top rating for water quality in a survey.
The Natural Resources Defense Council this week released "Testing the Waters: A Guide to Water Quality at Vacation Beaches."
Beach 6 in Ocean City in Worcester County, Md., made the list.
Beaches in Delaware's Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach - both in Sussex County - also made the list.
The survey recognizes popular beaches with exceptionally low violation rates and strong testing and safety practices.
The criteria include: routinely testing water more than once a week and posting closings and advisories both online and at the beach. They also include not waiting to resample the water before notifying the public when health standard violations are found.
