Military Ordnance Wash Ashore at Assageauge

Assateague Island facebook.com

There were some explosions along the beach of the Assateague Island National Park.

The north section of the beach was closed off yesterday morning when scraps of military shells washed ashore.

Park Ranger Ted Murlock told WBOC that erosion had uncovered around 100 artifacts of the Second World War.

He said that the unexploded ordnance was found by a beach goer on Monday.

Park rangers say that this kind of thing is common on the island where rockets and shell fragment are often buried in the sand.
