The Delaware Attorney General’s Office filed a complaint yesterday against Timothy Liveright, the former Planned Parenthood doctor who performed abortions at their clinic in Wilmington.
The complaint charged the physician with unprofessional, incompetent and negligent conduct calling him in the complaint “a clear and immediate danger to the public.”
The Wilmington News Journal reports that when contacted by phone the 68-year old Liveright called the charges “scandalous” for the state to make.
The physician who voluntarily turned in his license to practice medicine in Delaware last month called the complaint “double jeopardy”.
He told the paper that similar complaints had been investigated and dismissed last fall.
“I don’t know what their agenda is, but I don’t think I’m a danger to the public. “
The paper reports that the AG’s complaint says that Liveright was reprimanded by Planned Parenthood of Delaware for “unprofessional, disrespectful and inappropriate conduct”.
The complaint says that this ranged from abusive verbal behavior to sexual harassment of female employees.
The state also charged Liveright with incompetence and negligence related to abortions he performed on five patients from February 12th through March 13th.
The physician has 20 days to respond to the complaint.
Liveright was the subject of testimony this week from two nurses who worked with him at the clinic.
Both said they do not oppose abortion but that the clinic needs significant change and greater scrutiny.
Planned Parenthood halted all surgical abortion sin Delaware for several weeks after complaints arose and has drawn up a plan for correcting a dozen safe and sanitary practices violations citing by the State Division of Public Health.
Surgical abortions resumed last week.
State Medical Licensing Officials
DOVER, Del. (AP) - State medical licensing officials have filed a formal complaint against a doctor who performed abortions at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Wilmington that was recently cited by the state for several unsafe and sanitary practices.
The complaint filed Thursday by the state medical licensing board accuses Dr. Timothy F. Liveright of engaging in multiple acts of incompetence and negligence in performing abortions on five patients this year.
It also notes that Liveright was reprimanded by Planned Parenthood last year for sexually harassing female employees and for screaming and cursing in front of patients and employees.
According to the complaint, Liveright, who has an active license to practice in Pennsylvania, sent a letter to Delaware officials last month saying he had retired from practicing medicine in Delaware.
