Dover Mayor: No to New Casinos

Don Rush

It was a strong no to more casinos in Delaware from the Mayor of Dover Carelton Carey.

The city leader penned a letter to state lawmakers asking them to reject a plan that would add two new casinos to the First State.

WBOC reports that Car said there were only so many gambling dollars to go around adding that it would take revenue away from the Dover Downs facility.

Last night the town council considered endorsing the letter.

Dover area lawmakers strongly oppose the two new casinos and the legislation is on hold for the moment in the General Assembly.

Supporters of casino expansion say it would mean more jobs in Sussex and New Castle Counties.
