There’s a deal at least in principle between the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and the musicians’ union for a new three-year contract.
It comes after an emergency meeting that resulted in City of Wilmington and New Castle County leaders promising to come to the rescue of the cash-strapped organization.
The contract still needs to be approved by the union and the DSO board but both sides are hopeful since failure would mean the orchestra could not begin its upcoming season.
Under the agreement musicians were guaranteed three rehearsals before each performance that affects the musicians overall pay rate.
After 8-months of negotiations DSO Board Chair Tatiana Copeland told the Wilmington News Journal that she believes this is basically a good contract.
And she expects that the 2013-2014 Season could be announced next month including more concerts than last season but fewer than in previous years.
