Salisbury Sewage Plant Still Troubled

wicomicoenvironment.org

Despite efforts to upgrade the sewage treatment plant in Salisbury the facility is still having its troubles.

The Maryland Department of the Environment is looking into an incident on April 14th that released 30-thosuand gallons of partially treated sewage into the Wicomico River.

Maryland has set aside nearly $25 million to fix the city’s sewage treatment plant to greatly reduce pollution into the Chesapeake Bay.

But the Salisbury Daily Times reports that the company that was ordered last November to pay the city $2 million over the failed construction project has appealed the decision by the Wicomico County Circuit Court.

And this will mean more attorneys’ fees.

The second upgrade is expected to run $58.8 million.

The paper reports that the original technology for the plant upgrade had never been tried on such a scale and failed to meet the federally mandated levels of nutrient pollution
