Tigani Set to Enter Guilty Plea in Political Corruption Case

Tigani

Former liquor executive Christopher Tigani is set to plead guilty in Delaware Superior Court today and to get immediately sentenced for charges  that involve illegally providing money to state candidates.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that was confirmed by his attorney Eugene Maurer who said Tigani would plead guilty to unspecified charges.

Tigani was indicted last December on nine felony counts involving campaign contributions to candidates ranging from governor and lieutenant governor to the General Assembly.

But the paper reports that his attorney declined to be more specific.

The nine felony counts could bring a total of 18 years in prison but the state sentencing guidelines call for up to one year of low-level probation per count.

Tigani has been serving a two year federal sentence for tax evasion and campaign finance fraud in connection with federal candidates running for federal office including the presidency and the US Senate.

Lobbying Legislation

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The state House is set to vote on a bill prohibiting a former member of the General Assembly from working as a lobbyist for one year after leaving office.

The bill sponsored by Rep. John Kowalko, a Newark Democrat, is similar to others bill he has introduced in previous years seeking to end the so-called "revolving door" that churns lawmakers into lobbyists.

The bill to be voted on Tuesday would make violation of the one-year ban on lobbying a misdemeanor.

The bill would take in 2015, meaning it would not affect current lawmakers.
