Obamacare Health Exchanges Will Not Impact Delaware State Employees

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware officials say there are no plans to move government workers or teachers from the state's health insurance plan into a new health insurance exchange being set up under the federal health care reform law.

Officials in Gov. Jack Markell's budget office said Wednesday that there are no discussions about moving coverage for any state workers or teachers from Delaware's group health insurance plan to the new health insurance exchange.

They note that large employers currently are not eligible to be considered for access to the health exchanges until 2017, but said the State Employee Benefits Committee continues to be updated on changes related to the Affordable Care Act.

The state will begin enrolling clients in its health insurance exchange in October for coverage effective Jan. 1, 2014.
