Investigation of Anne Arundel County Police Chief

official photo

Former Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold may be gone but his conviction on two counts of criminal misconduct in office is still being felt.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the current County Executive Laura Neuman has launched an investigation into allegations that County Police Chief Larry Tolliver retaliated against officers who testified against Leopold.

At issue is Tolliver’s decision to move desirable positions and his alleged use of the f-word – that is a homophobic slur.

In an interview with the paper Tolliver denied he did anything wrong and said that the demotions were part of a broader effort to fix the department after two years of turmoil as a result of Leopold’s misuse of his police security detail.

Toliver told theBaltimore Sun it bothered him that the officers may think it’s “all about them” calling the department “a mess” when he took over.

As for the homophobic slur Tolliver said that he does not remember everything he said and admits he jokes around.

But, he adds, that he is not homophobic and does not question anyone’s sexual orientation.
