New Council Leadership

Jake Day is the new president of the Salisbury City Council.

He overwhelmed the incumbent Debbie Campbell in the general election and was joined by Council member Laura Mitchell as Vice President.

Mayor Jim Ireton was also sworn in as for a second term while Council member Shanie Shields was sworn in for a third term.

Observers see the new configuration as the ascendance of a new majority on the council with outgoing council president Terry Cohen and Council member Tim Spies now in the minority.

Mitchell said there was a loud message from this month’s election that the voters wanted an end to “the squabbling.”

Meanwhile, Spies warned the new majority that everything that the council does comes with a cost.
