DOVER, Del. (AP) - Hunters in Delaware have donated nearly 19,000 pounds of venison to charitable groups and food pantries across the state.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says the hunters donated meat from 708 deer to the Delaware Sportsmen Against Hunger Program.
The venison was processed by nine private butchers and a butcher shop at the Sussex Community Corrections Center.
Since the program began in 1992, hunters have donated more than 400,000 pounds of venison to provide nearly 1.5 million meals to people in need.
The amount donated during the 2012-2013 deer season was down slightly from the previous year.
