PARKSLEY, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police have charged a Parksley woman in connection with the latest arson on the Eastern Shore.
State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says 40-year-old Tonya S. Bundick was arrested shortly after midnight Tuesday near a vacant residence in Melfa that had been set on fire.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that she has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson and is listed by Accomack County as owner of a house on Matthews Road in Hopeton. The paper reports that this is next to the Gomez house, where a garage in the backyard was burned in a suspected arson on December 15th of last year.
The Times also reports that Bundick was taken into custody without incident following a traffic stop just after midnight near the site of the fire.
The fire was reported at 11:40 p.m. Monday. It was quickly extinguished and damage was minimal.
Bundick is being held at the Accomack County Jail without bond.
There have been more than 70 arsons in Accomack County since last November.
Geller didn't say whether the latest arson is linked to the earlier fires.
