TALLEYVILLE, Del. (AP) — A monument in Delaware honoring Christians who saved the lives of Jews during the Holocaust has been restored and will soon be rededicated.
The Garden of the Righteous Gentiles at the Bernard and Ruth Siegel Jewish Community Center in Talleyville was created in 1981 and is the first monument of its kind in the United States.
Holocaust survivors living in Delaware planted the trees in the garden, which are now tall shade trees. The News Journal of Wilmington (http://tinyurl.com/cot53b3) reports that the garden was restored recently by its original landscape architect, Robert Grenfell, and the Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Committee.
The rededication ceremony is scheduled for April 7. It will include the addition of a new tree.
